BEHAVIOR & EXPECTATIONS

MY GOALS

My goal is to create a classroom environment where my students feel safe, supported, and respected.  With this in place, students will enjoy coming to our classroom and will be eager to learn.  I want my students to feel that our classroom is a community.  I will treat each child with respect and make sure that they do the same. I will listen to my students, and always provide encouragement.  I want to foster a love of learning where I am constantly asking and reflecting “What do my students need?” I want my students to feel free to say what is in their minds and to not be afraid to make mistakes. It is vital that I build a trusting relationship with each student so that I am able to understand and address what they need academically, emotionally, and socially.

STUDENT EXPECTATIONS

I expect my students’ behavior to be kind, respectful, and considerate, which can help build the community in the classroom.  I expect that they help each other when someone needs assistance.  I expect that they ask questions when they need help or need clarification.  I expect that they listen attentively when an adult or a classmate is talking.  I expect that they put in their best effort when they work, and that they communicate with me right away if they don’t know what to do or if the task is too challenging.  I expect that they participate in class discussions so that each person has a chance to voice their opinion, thoughts, or views.  I expect that they follow the classroom rules that we, as a class, have created together.  As their teacher, I will model what I expect from them so that they understand what it means to be respectful, thoughtful, and helpful. I expect each of my students to know that I care about them and that I will try my best in addressing their needs, whether it is academic, social, or emotional needs.

BLOOMZ

I will be using Bloomz as my main behavior management tool, which allows me to give students immediate feedback on their behaviors, whether it is positive or negative.  However, I will focus more on positive reinforcement.  There will be a variety of ways that I will recognize positive behaviors throughout the year. Some examples are: points on Bloomz, tickets, and stickers. These may be traded in for “rewards” during the school year. These rewards may include items from the treasure box, having lunch with me, free homework pass, sitting in a special chair, or sitting next to their friend for the whole day.

I will be implementing the following steps for behaviors that DO NOT promote a positive classroom environment or interfere with others’ learning:

  1. Take a break/reflection time. Student thinks about what he/she has done and how they can change their behavior.

  2. Student and teacher conference

  3. Parent contact

  4. Parent and student meet with the teacher

*There are instances where an immediate discipline referral is necessary such as bullying, physical violence, fighting, profanity, obscenity, etc.

By working together to have a positive classroom environment, we will have a successful school year!
